Abstract
Visual effects are a major part in modern film production. Those effects are becoming more andmore realistic and especially for natural phenomena more and more challenging for artist and equipment. Nevertheless, films as "Hancock" and "The day after Tomorrow" set superb examples for a successful realisation. Inspired by those films this thesis intended to develop a computer generated tornado scenario. By means of FumeFX, a Autodesk 3D Studio Max plug-in used to calculate and control fluid simulations, a tornado was created. Using multilayer compositing in Adobe After Effects this tornado was integrated in an artificial environment. Flying bricks and planks as well as additional fluid elements were introduced to the scenes to enhance realism. By proceduralizing pipeline components, the workflow was mostly automated.
